A Culture “Rooted” in Success

Corporate culture is defined as the “sum of values, customs, traditions and meanings that make a company unique”. You can tell a lot about a company based on their culture. And not just what type of work environment they prefer or what kind of team players they might be. You can tell what kind of businessmen and women they are, what kind of leaders they aspire to be, what kind of business decisions they make when things are on the line.
At Sunesys, we as a company have enjoyed an incredible long-term run on success. We have witnessed our company grow in revenue and personnel. I am sure other companies can make a similar statement. But we have stayed the course through four owners and three severe economic downturns. And still, with all of that change, we have not only survived, but we have thrived. So, what is our secret formula?
- Is it being in the right place at the right time? Maybe, somewhat.
- Is it being in the right industry? No doubt a factor.
- Is it raw talent? Not by ourselves.
- Is it that we have been flawless, devoid of any mistakes? Not at all.
- Is it that we are world changing visionaries like Steve Jobs, Jack Welch or Winston Churchill? Honestly, I haven’t seen any of those guys around here.
All the above have had an influence but they don’t make success certain. To me, our single greatest factor is our collective character. It is the core values that we have as a company – values that we as a family embrace and pass on to new employees. You might call it our “company DNA” – it is consistently choosing to “do the right thing!”
